Our research addresses several important questions related to human cognition and emotion regulation:

  • How are memories of intense emotional experiences stored in the brain ?

  • What happens to emotional memories during offline periods (e.g. sleep) ?

  • Can offline memory processes be harnessed as a therapeutic tool ?

Funded by the Medical Research Council, we address these questions with a rigorous research programme that combines experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience and neurophysiology.

The EPOC lab is part of the Department of Psychology at the University of York.
